Special Issue Overview

Artificial intelligence (AI) is transforming the global sport industry. From
strategy and operations to fan engagement, sponsorship, and governance, AI is reshaping how sport organizations create value, make decisions, and compete in a digital economy.

This special issue invites high-quality submissions that explore the
innovative, strategic, and disruptive roles of AI in sport business. We welcome research that advances academic knowledge and provides managerial implications for practitioners.

Expert Interview with Galileo: The German Fitness Industry

From 2018 until 2021, I ran the Master in Sports Business and Communication at Munich Business School. In different courses, we extensively discuss the shifts in the sport industry. A couple of months ago, I was invited as an industry expert by Galileo, a daily knowledge show, broadcast on Pro7, a private channel. They were planning a full episode on the German fitness industry, with a focus on McFit/RSG Group. Of course, we recorded the interview in a gym, based in Munich. New Journal Paper: Reaping the digital dividend? Sport marketing’s move into esports

The European Journal of International Management published a special issue on international sport management earlier this year. The special issue was put together by Vanessa Ratten, an Associate Professor at La Trobe University, and a prolific researcher on sport management, technology, innovation and entrepreneurship, among other things. A joint paper on esports with Kilian Kramer (now at ESL Gaming) and Barbara Scheck (Munich Business School) made it into the special issue.
